Niagara Falls

Niagara Falls

If you are getting married, or just feeling romantic, Niagara Falls is a fantastic destination for you. It is a beautiful destination, with a great deal to do, beautiful views, quaint little get-away places and you will never run out of fun things to do and see. Additionally, compared to some other romantic destinations Niagara Falls offers great value.

There is an added benefit if you are planning a summer wedding and live somewhere that is burning up in the summer, because the summers are pleasant and a great escape from the heat.

You will definitely want to stay on the Canadian side of the falls. Get out your passport and treat yourself to the beauty that lies on the other side of the river. A beautiful park lines the length of the river from the falls for about a quarter mile. It is a short walk from any number of hotels that offer views of the river and falls and there is an inclined tram that you can take to shorten the trip to the visitors center above the falls if you wish to pay the dollar or so to board it.

There is also a casino just up from the falls for those of you who would like to try your hand at blackjack, craps or any other table games or slots.

Some of the traditional Niagara Falls excursions are a must see while there.

The Maid-of-the-Mist which will take you on a boat ride right up to the falls from the river below; prepare to get wet and feel the force of the wind generated by the falls which will blow the mist with gale force winds. You will think you are in a rain and wind storm, but it is generated totally by the force of the falling water and once you emerge from the falls the wind will subside and everything will go back to normal.

The Cave of the Winds is another great tradition there. If you look closely at the picture above, you can see the Cave of the Winds boardwalk at the bottom of the picture. You will have to get your ticket and join the experience on the US side in Niagara State Park. You can ample parking by following the road over the bridge to the parking area on Niagara Island or park in the tourist area of Niagara Falls, New York and walk the half mile trail to the park. Be prepared to be ‘blown away’ on the seasonally built board walk and view the Bridal Vail Falls from below.

Niagara-on-the-Lake is a great day trip. They have shops and restaurants to suit everyone and the scenery and atmosphere will allow you to forget the troubles you left behind.

There is much more to do and we would love to help you plan a honeymoon or family vacation to this beautiful and overlooked destination. It is well worth a visit.
